Playable Fighter Squadron View Mod
Screenshot This mod adds a 3-ship fighter squadron as a playable "ship". The three weapon mounts are positioned to fire from each of the three fighters. The mod features 40-facing ship graphics, large selection screen image, custom shield graphics, a new missile launcher item, and 3-segment armor. It does not overwrite any standard Transcendence features. It should work with any mod that doesn't directly overwrite it.

Unzip it into the extensions directory inside your Transcendence installation. If you do not have an extensions directory, create one first inside your Transcendence directory.

The large graphic for ship selection is modified from the MiM-31 Karyovin fighter as seen in the anime "SDF Macross" ( http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/karyovin.htm ). In-game graphics are modified from George's originals.

To do:

- add drive exhaust, rotated to match

- add custom armor graphics

I've been working on a similar concept but like your mod there are some major complications.

1. Origin of fire is set as a whole and not from a single coordinate. As the group rotates so does the origin. This doesn't look natural for the ships to move like that though and so we get the result you have. The solution is more facings and slower turning while the formation turns instead of the individual ships.

2.The thrust image has to be custom if you want the ships to turn instead of the squad. This takes even longer than making the ships in your case since you merely altered an existing image and could easily do a mass paste of an existing 40 facing strip. That's what I would have done at least.

Something you might want to consider is spacing the ships out more and making a few custom weapons for the squad. The benefits of a squad are smaller harder to hit targets and more guns. Really what you have here is more effectively produced using drones which is why I've put my project similar to this on the back burner.

Note: Yet another problem. About spreading the squad out, it makes it look odd when you dock since it uses the center of the squad.

What I like about the mod is the weapon placement. You really tried to make it look like each ship had their own weapon fire. I will be keeping a copy for reference.
